Toxicity to pets

Overdose of salt by animals results in gastrointestinal distress (e.g., vomiting, diarrhea), neurological signs (e.g., stumbling gait, disoriented behavior, tremor, seizure, collapse), and death. Common ways that pets become overdosed with salt include consuming handmade salt-dough ornaments or homemade salt-play dough, eating snow with salt de-icer, drinking excessive ocean water or salt water. Salt and salt-water should never be used to induce vomiting in an animal due to the high risk for creating salt poisoning.
